Enjoy Being a Senior – You’ve Earned it!

As you see, the images show smiling, vibrant seniors with busy social lives. It’s not just advertisement – it’s true to life. Seniors today live longer than seniors in years past. Seniors can expect to live 20-30 years after they retire. It’s an opportunity to do so many things that we all love – spending time with family, volunteering, traveling, house projects, taking up a hobby, or writing a book.

Well, one thing I strongly urge seniors to do is to put premium time (& perhaps money as well) in their health. You can ensure that you’re doing all you can to optimize your health and live the fullness of your days. Don’t accept the fact that just because you’re older, certain things are inevitable that mean health deterioration. These are just a few things I recommend you consider incorporating in your health regimen:

  • Get regular exercise 3-5 times per week. Walking is a great start. It uses the whole body and you get fresh air into your lungs and natural Vitamin D from the sun. I ride my bicycle and though it’s physically exerting, I always feel so much better and it keeps my blood pressure in check
  • Cook your meals and reserve restaurants for special occasions or an occasional treat to yourself. If cooking isn’t your thing, perhaps consider ordering healthy meals for home delivery. There are several such options now available.
  • See your Primary Care Physician at least once/twice a year and get your annual physical. Be sure to follow up to get any labs or tests your doctor recommends. Then you’ll want to follow up once the doctor receives the results. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure – right?
  • Consult with your doctor about perhaps adding supplements to your regimen for improved health. We know most foods don’t contain the necessary nutrients our bodies need, so supplements can be a good addition.

Being a Senior means being top shelf in so many areas! Enjoy your life!
