MEDICARE ABC
Medicare has four basic parts: Part A, Part B, Part C, & Part D. Each part helps pay for certain health care services. Each part also has certain costs that you may have to pay. Your Medicare costs will depend on what coverage you choose and on what health care services you use.

Hospitalization
Medicare Part A is hospitalization. When on Original Medicare, if you have a hospital stay (inpatient), Medicare Part A pays 80% of the hospital bill. Medicare Part A also covers care at a skilled nursing facility, and limited nursing home care. When you initiate Social Security benefits, Medicare requires you to enroll in Medicare Part A at that time.

Medical Insurance
Medicare Part B is your medical insurance. When on Medicare, and you see your Primary Care Physician or a Specialist, Medicare pays 80% of the cost for any covered services that your doctor says are medically necessary. Medicare Part B also covers many preventive services that may be important to you.

Medicare Advantage
Medicare Part C is the Medicare Advantage Plans. When on Medicare, you may be able to enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan, which will complement your Medicare insurance. Medicare Advantage Plans are run by Health Insurance companies; they cover services that Medicare covers and also cover services not covered by Medicare. Some of the additional coverages are prescription drug plans and dental services.

Drug Coverage
Medicare Part D is Prescription Drug Plans. When on Medicare alone, you will need a Prescription Drug Plan to get your medications. Medicare Prescription Drug Plans are run by Health Insurance companies and (CMS/Medicare regulates the Health Insurance companies-look for correct facts & wording).
